The much-awaited award ceremony in Hollywood – Oscars 2020 – kickstarted on a glamorous note as stars shone bright on the red carpet. From Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron to Gal Badot, Natalie Portman and Renee Zellweger, at the 92nd Academy Awards it was a whole new line of statement gowns that were the highlight of the day. Black seemed to be the favourite colour for the occasion along with metallic hues and sparkling white. And there was of course the high slits and sparkly embellishments that added to the glitz. Let’s take a look a some of our favourite celebrity looks from Oscars 2020.
1. Scarlett Johansson
Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, who is nominated for two films – Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit and Best Actress for Marriage Story – was a vision in a stunning metallic gown by Oscar de la Renta. She dazzled in a custom pewter gown with fringe bodice and satin skirt. “The intricately hand-draped corset and bias-cut represent over 300 hours of craftsmanship” wrote the fashion house on their Instagram post.

The Judy actress, who is nominated for Best Actress for her role in this film, was a stunning vision in a sparkling white gown with no frills, no extra drama. The one-shoulder body-hugging dress stood out for its simplicity other than a few statement features such as the one-shoulder cut and sequin embellishments to add spark.

7. Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz stuck to the classic colour code of black and impressed in a fit and flared outfit that worked well to accentuate her waist. The off-shoulder dress had halter straps, a corset-style top and a flared high-low skirt that added to the drama. Oh, and also a string of pearls that worked as a waist belt.
8. Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae, who also performed at Oscars 2020, was all about shimmer and sparkles as she picked a heavily embellished silver gown by Ralph Lauren to glam up for the red carpet. Apart from the bling, it was the veil that added an extra edge to her look.
